How to get to the Tower of London

The Tower sits on the north bank of the Thames, right next to Tower Bridge. It’s one of the easiest attractions in London to reach — you can arrive by Tube, DLR, bus, riverboat or on foot.

Tower Bridge and the Tower of London at dusk

By Tube

Tower Hill station (District and Circle lines) is a 3-minute walk from the ticket office. Follow the signs from the exit — you’ll see the walls of the Tower as soon as you reach street level.

By DLR

Tower Gateway DLR station is the closest DLR stop (5-minute walk). Handy if you’re coming from Canary Wharf, Greenwich or London City Airport.

By National Rail

London Fenchurch Street is a 5-minute walk. London Bridge is a lovely 15-minute walk over Tower Bridge itself — well worth doing at least one way.

By bus

Routes 15, 42, 78, 100 and RV1 all stop within a few minutes’ walk of the entrance. The 15 is one of the last routes still using heritage Routemasters on part of its journey.

By river

Uber Boat by Thames Clippers stops at Tower Pier, right outside the moat. Arriving by boat from Westminster, the London Eye or Greenwich turns the journey into part of the day out.

Walking & cycling

It’s a scenic 15-minute walk from St Paul’s or Monument along the river. Santander Cycles docking stations sit at Tower Gardens and Lower Thames Street. There’s no visitor car parking at the Tower itself; the nearest public car park is the Tower Hill car park on Lower Thames Street.
