Best time to arrive
The Crown Jewels are the busiest part of any visit. To see them without a long queue, head straight there when the Tower opens or in the last hour of the afternoon. Weekdays outside school holidays are noticeably quieter than weekends.
Accessibility
The Tower is a medieval fortress, so cobbles, stairs and narrow spiral staircases are unavoidable in places. That said, a step-free route covers most of the site and includes the Crown Jewels. Free carer tickets are available, and manual wheelchairs can be borrowed at the entrance. Assistance dogs are welcome throughout.
How long to allow
Most visitors spend 3 to 4 hours at the Tower of London. If you plan to join a Yeoman Warder tour (highly recommended, and included in your ticket), watch the Ceremony of the Keys, or linger over the Royal Armouries in the White Tower, allow a full day.
